Ruth I. Drummond

Ruth I Drummond, 96 of age, passed away peacefully on April 18th,2024 at her home in Pueblo, Colorado.  Ruth was born in East Cleveland, Ohio to Ruth and Carl Giblin, and adopted by her stepfather William Clark in 1931.

Ruth met her husband, Ted, on a blind date in Ohio, where he was stationed with the Coast Guard. After a  long-distance courtship, Ruth travelled to Pueblo one week before marrying Ted in 1947.  After marrying, she referred to herself as a “pioneer woman” moving to such a beautiful and peaceful place that was so different from her home state of Ohio.  She always said she was blessed to have married into the loving Drummond family.  Ruth and Ted raised 5 children in Pueblo and had a loving marriage of 60 years.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Ted E Drummond, son, Dale C Drummond (Marta), son, Ted Guy Drummond, brother, Carl Giblin, sister, Georgia Anne Horvath, sister Edythe “Edy” Keller.  Survived by son, Grant H Drummond, son, Ted E (Chriss) Drummond II, daughter, Twila A Drummond, daughter, Debra D (Craig) Thurman.  She was a very proud and blessed grandmother to 18 beautiful grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great   grandchildren (with 2 on the way).   She had numerous nieces and nephews near and far away who treated her like a mother.  She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved her family with all her heart.

After Ruth’s retirement from Pueblo School District 60 in 2004, she took up painting and added it to the list of many hobbies she had; her love of dance, card playing, golf, tennis, bicycling, hiking, her great love for flowers and gardening, an excellent seamstress sewing clothes for her whole family, there wasn’t a craft she didn’t master.  She was always savvy with technology and quite the “gadget girl”, impressing even her own grandchildren with her social media skills.  One of her favorite things to do was to lunch with her special nieces of Pueblo,  Connie Padilla, Carol Drummond, and the late Linda Drummond to celebrate birthdays. Ruth was a member of the Pueblo Art Guild, Eagles 45, Elks 90, Red Hat Belles, Beta Sigma Phi and was a DAR (Daughter of American Revolution).  Ruth was a remarkably strong woman who accomplished so much in her 96 years of life.  She was beautiful inside and out, loving, vibrant, funny and had a smile that would light up a room.   She loved to make people laugh and would always say “laughter was the best medicine”, even at the end she was telling jokes and making people laugh.    She considered herself to be blessed to have each and everyone who has passed through her life with imparting their kindness, wisdom, and laughter.  She lived life to the fullest and was loved by many.  What a beautiful adventure and life she lived!   Special acknowledgement to her devoted caregivers; daughter, Debra my M.D. (My Daughter) , daughter-in-law, Chriss Langloss Drummond, CNA, LaDawn Worley and her amazing loving nurse at Parkview Hospital, Dina.   Her grandson, Grant H Drummond II for his countless hours of service  in providing care/maintenance for her home, grandson, Seth Drummond Holloway for his weekly visits that brightened her day, and granddaughter, Gwen Steves for sharing the mutual love of theatre.

Cremation has taken place.  A memorial service and celebration of her life well lived, will be held at 1:00p.m on Saturday , May 18th, 2024, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Pueblo Stake Center, 4720 Surfwood Ln,   Pueblo, CO.  There will be a gathering in the fellowship after the memorial service with some of Ruth’s favorite foods.
