Debra Darlene Jones, passed away February 18, 2024 in Pueblo, CO after a brief illness. She was born in Boise, ID on September 3, 1956, to Robert and Eleanor Bradfield.
Debra grew up on a small dairy farm in Vale, OR. While there she was active in 4H participating in livestock, sewing and cooking.
After High School she attended Oregon Institute of Technology, studying X-Ray Technology. There she was a member of the college Rodeo Club. It was at one of the club dances where she met Paul Jones. With similar backgrounds, they began to spend time together and became engaged under the Yaquina Head Lighthouse in Newport, OR on Valentines Day, 1976. After the summer apart, while Paul was harvesting, they were married on September 18, 1976, in Vale, OR. She took on the roles of housewife, housekeeper and hunter. During this time, she attended Treasure Valley Community College, where she received an associate degree in Bookkeeping. In the early 1980s she moved with Paul to Oklahoma to work with Paul’s brother on the custom wheat harvest. They harvested from Texas to Oregon to Montana. Debra was one of the cooks for the harvest crew, feeding up to 18 crew members three times a day. Lunch and dinner were brought to the field, so the crew could eat in shifts while the machines continued harvesting. On occasion, she was even pressed into driving a grain truck. When the harvest moved from place to place, she drove a pickup towing the 34’ house trailer. During this time, she had at least 26 addresses.
After this adventure she returned to Ontario, OR with Paul. She resumed her housekeeping business where she cleaned houses for 6-8 regular customers. On August 24, 1989 she gave birth to Carolyn Rose Jones. She was very proud and excited to be a mother. In 1995 Paul and Debbie won a 3-day cruise to the Bahamas through Paul’s work. It was on that cruise where a lifelong relationship was formed with John and Donna Levar of Beulah, CO. It was through that meeting that eventually the family moved to Pueblo West, CO that fall.
Debra started working with School District 70 as a personal aide at Pueblo West High School. She later transitioned to the position of School Nurse Assistant. Over the next 20 plus years she worked in nearly every school throughout Pueblo West. In 2015 she battled cancer. After surgery, six rounds of chemotherapy and 28 radiation treatments, she got to “Ring the Bell” as treatments were over in January of 2016. Throughout all of her treatments she never missed any work. She was a talented seamstress. Sewing many of her own clothes and completing alterations on many, many wedding dresses. Carolyn’s wedding dress and those of the bridesmaids were products of her sewing machine. She even flew to Dallas with her sewing machine to fit the dresses. Debra loved the Holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas. Thanksgiving was her time to showcase her cooking and baking abilities. Often, she would host up to 20 people for dinner. She was widely known and loved for her pies. The Christmas season started with her adorning the house with every size, shape and type of decoration. That was followed by her cookie exchange, where she invited friends to join her in making and sharing Christmas cookies. She was a wonderful mother and devoted wife. She was very proud of Carolyn and enjoyed being a part of her activities whether it was judging speech meets, altering band uniforms or chaperoning trips
Debra was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Paul Jones of Pueblo West and daughter, Carolyn (Aaron) Bidwell of Irving, TX. She has two brothers Brent (Becky) Bradfield of Irrigon, OR and Brian (Tina) Bradfield of Vale, OR. She has one granddaughter, Adreena Bidwell and 14 nieces and nephews. Debra was loved by many and loved helping anyone she could. She will be in our hearts forever.
