Catharine Walter Bearden passed away peacefully on October 19, 2023 at her home, The Legacy, in Trinidad, CO.  She was born on January 2, 1934 into the Walter Brewing Company family in Pueblo, CO. She was lovingly known as “Sis” and later as “Dear” to her family and friends.

She and her parents, Catharine Crockett Walter and Karl Jacob Walter along with her brother Karl E. Walter lived in Pueblo and spent many fond years at their beautiful Karl-a-Kate ranch in Beulah, CO. After graduating from Central High School (Pueblo) in 1951, she furthered her education at Stephen’s College and Stanford University. Upon her return to Colorado, her family moved to Trinidad where she met the love of her life John N. “Jack” Bearden. They were married on December 28, 1954 and were together for more than 60 years until Jack’s passing in 2015. She was a loving spouse and adored her family. Her special interests included Classical Music, Opera, and the Fine Arts. She also enjoyed the piano and her book club. Her love for cooking and travel brought her great joy and into many local kitchens as well as acclaimed cooking schools abroad. She was a member of P.E.O - Chapter J for over 60 years, serving in all offices. Catharine was very involved in the local community. Her generosity & service was legendary. She served on committees at the A. R. Mitchell Museum, Friends of the Library,  Stonewall Country Club, and the Trinidad Historical Society. Her love for the outdoors kept her in the Colorado mountains and in many of her beautiful gardens during the summer.

Catharine is lovingly survived by her son John Walter (Lauren) Bearden and her daughter Juliet Bearden (Mike) Dixon; her grandchildren, Cassie Dixon, Robert Aaron (Paige) Dixon, Brett Bearden (Lynley Fox) Dixon, Ian Schine (Megan) Bearden, and Avery Catharine Bearden, and great-granddaughter Leah Marie Dixon. She was preceded in death by her sibling Karl E. Walter.

Family suggests donations to Mt. Rose Hospice in Trinidad or a charity of your choice.

Catharine will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband following a Private family graveside service in the Trinidad Masonic Cemetery.
