Margaret McDonald

Margaret McDonald was born January 5, 1932 and died on November 9, 2009. Survived by her husband, Tom; their children, Susan (Alan) Shelinbarger, James (Susan) McDonald and David (Michele) McDonald; their grandchildren, Christy and Michael Shelinbarger, Samuel McDonald and Patrick McDonald. An advanced student, Margaret started attending Berea College in Kentucky at 16, quickly earning her bachelor’s degree in English. Later, while working full-time and raising her children, she earned her master’s degree in Library Science from the University of Northern Colorado. In her early career, she worked in the typing pool at a research facility where she tested variations of what would become White Out. She also worked at North American Aviation as an editor of flight manuals of experimental aircraft, which required a high governmental security clearance. Margaret and Tom were married on February 19, 1956. While still a stay at home mom, she volunteered at the Highland Park Elementary School library. This led to a job in the media center at Roncalli in 1974, and the media specialist at Sunset Park until her retirement in 1994. She was a talented needle worker, earning many awards from the Colorado State Fair for her needlepoint and cross-stitch creations. She enjoyed traveling the U.S. with Tom in their motor home and camping with the local Railroading Sam’s group, was a longtime member and officer of AAUW, enjoyed being a Red Hat lady and was an active member of King of Kings Lutheran Church. Margaret lived a good, active life. She was intelligent, witty and fun to be around. She will be greatly missed. She is now enjoying one heck of a great family reunion. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 2561 Vinewood Lane, with Reverend Mark J. Crates officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Memorial Fund at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 2561 Vinewood Lane, Pueblo, CO 81005.
