Eugene "Gene" Howard

Eugene “Gene” Howard, 84, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 25, 2014. Gene was born in Purcell, OK on Jan. 24, 1930 and was raised in Pueblo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Ella Howard, mother-in-law Evelyn Thurston, son Tim Howard, and brother-in-law Gilbert Thurston. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Ruthie, daughter Linda (Ernie) Betts, son Tracy (Jan) Howard, grandchildren Megan, Nicole, Julie, and Rich (Marie), sisters Ruby (Albert) Smith, Mary Thurston, and Eddie (Dick) Lenzen, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gene graduated from Centennial High School in 1948. He worked for the CF&I Steel Mill where he retired after 37 years as a roller foreman. Gene was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army after serving in the Korean War. He was a 60 year member of Silver State Lodge #95 AF&AM, a member of the Al Kaly Shrine – Kaly Klown Unit, Past Patron of Pueblo Chapter #7 O.E.S. and Past Royal Patron of the Order of the Amaranth. Gene’s long time hobby included collecting and restoring antique cars with his sons. The family would like to thank Pam Isley as well as Sangre de Cristo Hospice for the great care that he received. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the Davis Memorial Chapel. The family requests donations be made in Gene’s name to Sangre de Cristo Hospice or Al Kaly Transportation Fund. Online condolences at DavisMortuary.com.
