Bettie R. Kirkwood passed away April 16, 2012 in Pueblo. Bettie was born in Maroa, Illinois on July 7, 1924 and had lived in Pueblo nearly 60 years. She was employed as a Registered Nurse at the State Hospital for 24 years before retiring in 1988. Bettie was a member of the Pride City Quilt Guild and was an accomplished and recognized quilter and seamstress. She was a member of Adriance Methodist Church and Cactus Rebeccas in Pueblo. She enjoyed camping and the outdoors. Mrs Kirkwood was preceded in death by her husband Keith in 2009 and a great grandson, Taylor West. She is survived by her daughters; Kay (Jim) McCarty, of Rye; Kristine Kirkwood, of Pueblo; a sister, Janice (Dave) Bales of IL; grandchildren, Suzette (Bryan) Boyer, Jeanette (Matt) Algien, Lynette (Shannon) Byerly, Shawnette (Christian) Fair and her great grandchildren, Michael (Ariel), Tyler, Muire McKinley, Ashley and Nicole Algien, Ryan and Lane Byerly, Ryli West, Hunter, Jackson and Tyson Fair. Visitation will be at the mortuary from 2 until 4 PM on Thursday. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the Davis Memorial Chapel. Cremation will follow. Her family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Sangre de Cristo Hospice for their compassionate care. Donations in memory of Bettie may be made to the Sangre de Cristo Hospice.
